Our School

Peeler-Hampton Visual and Performing Arts Elementary sits on the land where Peeler Open School was prior to a tornado in 2018. Honoring the arts focus that previously existed in that area, and designed to be a school of the community, Peeler-Hampton Visual and Performing Arts Elementary entered the design phase in November 2021, with construction starting in September 2023. In September 2024, the Guilford County Board of Education approved the programming to be arts integrated and inclusive of multiple art forms. In January 2025, the first principal, Dr. Shannon Peeples, was named by the Board of Education. Throughout the spring of 2025, Dr. Peeples worked with district supports Leigh Ann Little, Director of Arts Education, and Dr. Andrew Dancy, Coordinator of Arts Education, to spearhead the development of the arts integrated focus for the school. Staffing began in March 2025 as student recruitment also accelerated. In July 2025, the Board of Education voted to name the school Peeler-Hampton Visual and Performing Arts Elementary after Rev. Silas Peeler, who was president of Bennett College from 1905-1013, and Dr. William H. Hampton, a physician, Board of Education Member and the first black person elected to Greensboro City Council. Both had strong ties to the arts community as well. The inaugural staff and students will begin in August 2025.
